FIA ERC Production Car Cup frontrunner Marco Tempestini has won the Sibiu Rally Show, defeating son Simone in the final of Romania’s version of the Race of Champions.
But it was a close fight with both Tempestinis each winning a race in the final before Tempestini Sr did enough to take the overall honours in the third encounter.
“It was a nice race and a hard fight with Simone,” said Marco Tempestini, who was driving a Ford Fiesta R5. “I’ve realised that in the near future I won’t have many other chances to beat him because he is extremely fast and he is evolving a lot this season in his learning year. So I’m very happy to win this final race of the season and now we can concentrate on the future.”
Marco Tempestini progressed to the final by defeating Napoca Rally Academy team-mate and Romanian class 11 champion Danny Ungar in the semi-final. Meanwhile, Simone Tempestini, who was competing in a Subaru Impreza R4 STI (pictured), saw off Sebastian Barbu’s challenge in his semi-final as the ERC 2WD ace stepped up to a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X R4.
Afterwards, Simone Tempestini said: “For me it was a fantastic year. I’ve gained a lot of experience and I’m ready for the future. It was nice to fight against my father here. Now I’m looking to the next season starting with the Jännerrallye.”
The Sibiu Rally Show took place on the same superspecial stage used for last July’s ERC-counting Sibiu Rally Romania. Subject to final FIA World Motor Sport Council ratification, Sibiu Rally Romania will count as round three of the 2014 ERC season from 27 February-1 March when it becomes a snow rally for the first time.
