Andersson, who passed away in 2009, was ERC champion in 1958 and 1963, while Cerrato registered his European title triumphs in 1985 and 1987.
Voting opens at 11:00 CET as the search to find out who fans consider to be the ERC Greatest Driver continues into the second week.
Part of the championship’s ongoing 70th anniversary celebrations, ERC Greatest Driver voting began last week with Luca Rossetti, Kajetan Kajetanowicz, Sobiesław Zasada and Patrick Snijers all making it through to the quarter-final stage.
FIAERC.com used a data-based approach to pick out 12 drivers who have won the European Rally Championship at least two times. Four wildcards, based on their impact during a certain ERC era, were also selected for the voting process. The ERC Greatest Driver, according to your votes, will be revealed on 1 December.
Andersson: Sweden’s first ERC champion who doubled up
The second driver to win the ERC twice following on from Walter Schock, Swede Gunnar Andersson (above) added the 1963 crown to his 1958 title triumph, relying on Volvo power on each occasion. He won in his homeland and in the former Yugoslavia to take the 1958 crown. And while wins eluded him in 1963, his podium consistency more than paid off with championship number two. Andersson was 82 when he passed away in 2009.
Cerrato’s twin titles just a part of his ERC success
Dario Cerrato (below) wasn’t just successful in his native Italy, as his five national titles attest, he also won the FIA European Rally Championship on two occasions, in 1985 and 1987. The Italian completed his ERC stint in 1994 having taken a mighty 25 wins and 51 podiums from 89 starts. He used a Lancia 037 Rally to win the 1985 title before switching to the Delta Integrale to land top honours two years later. While Lancia was perhaps the manufacturer he was most synonymous with, his early career was spent mainly competing in Opels. Indeed, his biography released earlier this year, is titled Una vita fra Opel e Lancia or A life between Opel and Lancia.
