Béres wins ERC Photograph of the Year accolade

Béres, who follows Ricardo Oliveira in winning the prestigious accolade, beat fellow award short listers Massimo Ponti, from Italy, and Attila Szabo, his fellow Hungarian, in the online poll.  

His image of Miklós Csomós, taken shortly after the Hungarian talent’s dramatic crash on Rally Islas Canarias, was one of the most poignant moments of the 2023 ERC season.   

Although Csomós and co-driver Attila Nagy were thankfully uninjured, the severity of the accident meant their Škoda Fabia Rally2 Evo could not be salvaged. And with no funds available to source a replacement car, Csomós was forced to miss the next three rounds, while Nagy took a break from co-driving.  

Béres was one of several professional photographers working across the ERC season who was invited to submit their best work captured during 2023.  

Photographers from countries including Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Romania also took part.

Béres received 35 per cent of the vote with Ponti (photograph above) finishing runner-up having gathered 26 per cent of the vote. Szabo (photograph below) completed the top three on 13 per cent.

The fifth edition of Rally Hungary opens the 2024 FIA European Rally Championship season from 12 - 14 April.
