Avcioglu builds ERC experience in Poland
Orhan Avcioglu achieved his goal of finishing PZM Rally Poland as he continues to build his event experience ahead of a concerted ERC campaign in 2019.
The 2017 FIA Balkan Trophy winner from Turkey is using the current season to learn the events that make up the FIA European Rally Championship roster.
While Avcioglu just missed out on scoring more ERC points in Poland in his Toksport WRT ŠKODA Fabia R5, he was nevertheless able to maximise his stage knowledge by getting to the finish.
“It was my first time in Poland and we went there to learn,” said Avcioglu, who sacrificed competing on his home round of the world championship to compete in Mikołajki. “They were very fast stages and we needed to be careful with the pacenotes and try to place the car in the right position before a crest or a corner. That’s very important and that’s what we were trying to do.
“I learned [since day one] it’s human nature that you want to go faster all the time but we focused on trying to get better and get the confidence. I made some progress… hopefully for next year.”
