Starting out aged 15 in Folkrace, an affordable form of rallycross in Sweden, Carlberg was then given the keys to an Audi 80, costing 2000 euros, to go rallying. He switched to a rear-wheel-drive Volvo 940 before stepping up to the Swedish championship in a Ford Fiesta Rally4 in 2021.

He won both the junior and senior 2WD titles but switched to the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup for 2022 rather than taking up an offer to compete at Rally2 level in his homeland. With this father Torbjörn co-driving, Carlberg secured the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup on Central European Rally in 2023.
