ERC Greatest Graduate: the winners so far recap
The ERC Greatest Graduate of the Modern Era quarter-finals are almost complete with Adrien Fourmaux and Mārtiṇš Sesks the final pairing up for the public vote.
Ahead of Monday’s first semi-final here’s a remainder of who the fans have favoured so far.
Week 1: Oliver Solberg edges out Grégoire Munster in the first heat with fans then favouring the late Craig Breen over Sami Pajari in heat two. Stéphane Lefebvre gets the nod ahead of Kalle Rovanperä in heat three before Kris Meeke tops the online poll over Andreas Mikkelsen.
Week 2: Three-time European champion Kajetan Kajetanowicz enjoys a comfortable victory over Ott Tänak in heat five with Mille Johansson pipping Esapekka Lappi to the heat six triumph, albeit by a slender margin of four per cent. The heat seven win goes to Mārtiṇš Sesks over Nikolay Gryazin, while Adrien Fourmaux edges out Thierry Neuville in the eighth and final heat. The quarter-finals begin before the second week of ERC Greatest Graduate voting ends and it’s Breen, not Solberg, who earns the most fan support.
Week 3: The quarter-finals continue with a Lefebvre win ahead of Meeke before fans choose Kajetanowicz over Johansson. The final quarter-final between Fourmaux and Sesks is due to conclude today (Saturday) with voting available via the ERC’s social media channels.
ERC Greatest Graduate explained
Since the ERC was restructured in 2004 into the hugely successful format recognisable today, an endless stream of drivers have built experience competing at European level either at the start of or during their rise to the sport’s highest echelon, the FIA World Rally Championship.
Throughout November, FIAERC.com is highlighting 16 drivers – selected by the ERC’s media team – who have done just that. And it’s calling on fans of the championship to help decide the best of the best graduates through an online that closes with the grand finale on Friday 28 November.
Employing bracketology, voting is available through the ERC’s social media channels with a minimum 24-hour window to vote for each pairing. The winner will be announced on Saturday 29 November.
