After gaining ERC event experience earlier in their careers, the British duo secured the coveted title during a three-way showdown with two other crews who competed at ERC level, Oliver Solberg and Elliott Edmondson and Sami Pajari and Marko Salminen.
The ERC is the established stepping stone to the WRC and provides a crucial and proven link between national and international level. Of the top 20 finishers on Rally Italia Sardegna, 14 have competed in the ERC, including overall European champions past and present, Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Teemu Suninen.
Rami Virtanen, the ERC Championship Manager, said: “It was fantastic that the three WRC title contenders had competed in the ERC earlier in their careers to gain experience and we congratulate them all for their achievements this season. The ERC prides itself as the launchpad to the WRC and we are very pleased the opportunity for progression exists and continues to be utilised by drivers stepping up from national level.”
