Although Basso, 52, has been a regular on the ERC-counting Rally di Roma Capitale since 2018, winning three times, not since in 2011 has he competed at European level outside his homeland when he finished as the second-best ERC-registered driver on Barum Czech Rally Zlín.
Basso, 52, will start his bid for European glory on the season-opening 43rd Andalusia Rally - Sierra Morena - Córdoba World Heritage Site from 17 - 19 April, and tackle at least two more rounds.

“We’re happy to announce that we’ll be competing in Rally Sierra Morena, the first round of the European championship, again with Delta Rally and Scuderia Movisport, with Lorenzo Granai,” Basso said. “We haven't fully finalised our plans for 2026 yet, but we'll definitely participate in two or three European championship rounds, and then we'll see how we fare.
Basso has made 55 ERC starts and claimed his 21st victory on Rally di Roma Capitale last season. He added a second title to his title in 2009 and, in 2023, topped an online fan vote to decide the ERC Greatest Driver of all time.

He said: “Returning to the ERC abroad is wonderful. It’s been a long time since I last raced [abroad], but I’ve always wanted to compete against foreign drivers on the international stage. Winning in Rome last year was truly special.”
Basso will drive a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2.
