The reigning Finnish champion, 26, joined the Indian tyre manufacturer for last month’s ERC Staff House Rally Hungary and took an impressive debut victory in the series, which he backed up with second place on BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia.
Although a crash put him out of the podium fight on ORLEN OIL 81st Rally Poland, he completed his planned three-event schedule equal third in the standings with 60 points.
“I’m truly excited to continue this collaboration with Team MRF Tyres and I’m grateful to everyone who has placed their trust in me and made this next step possible,” Korhonen said. “Over the past three rallies, I’ve felt confident with the overall package and found great synergy with the MRF tyres, so I’m looking forward to the challenge of competing on
Tarmac. We’re well aware that, with the rally also counting as a round of the Campionato Italiano Assoluto Rally Sparco, the level of competition will be extremely high. The top Italian drivers, who are specialists on these roads, will be strong contenders for victory. Our goal is to find our rhythm quickly and make the most of this opportunity.”
Korhonen’s fellow Finn, Anssi Viinikka, will continue to co-drive their Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.
Rally di Roma Capitale forms round five of the eight-event ERC season and takes place from 4 - 6 July.
