Co-driver Syty was forced to miss the last two ERC events after he hurt his back on a heavy landing while navigating Matulka’s father, Przemysław, on AKPOL Mikołajki Rally, a cross-country event in their native Poland in early June.
Fully recovered, Syty will return to ERC action in the ORLEN LOTTO Rally Team Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 Matulka Jr used to bank his maiden European championship podium on last month’s 82nd Rally Poland.
They prepared for Barum Czech Rally Zlín, which takes place from 14 - 16 August, with a test in Czech Republic earlier this week.
“We’ve had a very good test day ahead of Barum Rally,” Polish champion Matulka explained. “We completed a lot of valuable work – checking the car, how it behaves on this type of road and, most importantly, how comfortable we feel in these conditions. I’m also very happy to have Damian back with us. It’s great to have him alongside me in the rally car again and to prepare together for another event.

“We want to settle into the rally well from the very beginning, focus on doing our job and maintain a strong pace throughout the weekend. Barum Rally is a major challenge, so full concentration will be essential from the very first kilometre.”
Matulka and Syty will be in action during Friday’s Free Practice, which gets under way at 09:00 local time and is followed by the Žlutava Qualifying Stage live on Rally.TV and YouTube from 10:46.
