Suninen ahead on Poland’s ERC counter
Teemu Suninen holds first place on 82nd Rally Poland after four stages of the FIA European Rally Championship event.
Driving a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 on Pirelli tyres, the provisional points pacesetter heads home hero Jakub Matulka by 4.9sec after he went quickest by 3.6sec on SS4. Michelin-supplied Matulka had earlier gone fastest on SS2 to take the lead from Lancia-powered Andrea Mabellini, who won the Katowice super special on Friday night.
Mabellini is third, 7.0sec adrift of Suninen, followed by European champion Miko Marczyk, who is 7.1sec behind the current leader. William Creighton and Simone Tempestini complete the top six with Tempestini demoting Jarosław Szeja on SS4.
Three-time European title winner Kajetan Kajetanowicz is eighth on his ERC comeback. Marco Bulacia and Erik Cais round out the top 10 with Philip Allen, Adrian Rzeżnik, Gábor Német, Tristan Charpentier and Hankook-supported Isak Reiersen in contention for ERC points in positions 11-15 respectively.
Michał Chorbiński led the ERC3 division following SS2 after overnight leader Craig Rahill went off the road on SS3 and dropped more than 50 seconds.
Stages two and three were interrupted and not restarted after separate accidents for Marcel Neulinger/Jürgen Heigl (SS2) and Dominik Stříteský/Ondřej Kračja (SS3).
Medical assistance was required following both accidents and quickly provided by the excellent volunteers supporting the rally and all good wishes are being extended to the crews involved.
The repeat of the 17.05-kilometre Jastrzębie Zdrój stage is up next at the new time of 15:23.
