Once again, the ERC media team has carefully selected its shortlist of five nominees for this new category for 2025. And fans can choose from the following standout rookies.
Tymek Abramowski
In his first season of international competition, Abramowski shrugged off his lack of experience – including on asphalt – to win the ERC Fiesta Rally3 Trophy and move to within touching distance of the ERC3 title. He gets a Ford Fiesta Rally2 prize drive from M-Sport Poland for winning the former and will doubtless when he takes up the opportunity on next season’s ERC opener.
Roope Korhonen
While Korhonen is proven at WRC2 level, ERC Staff House Rally Hungary marked the Finn’s first taste of European action. He excelled by taking a debut victory before a podium finish on BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia put him into the title equation for a time.
Ioan Lloyd
One of several young talents trying out the ERC for the first time in 2025, Welshman Lloyd has grown in stature and grown into an ERC4 title contender on the back of several excellent displays alongside co-driver Sion Williams, another promising competitor for the future.
Craig Rahill
As a winner of the prestigious Billy Coleman Award – handed out to the most promising Irish rally driver each season – Rahill’s potential was already clear. With the support of the Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy, Rahill has built on that hope, becoming a Junior ERC winner on Barum Czech Rally Zlín.
Jos Verstappen
While the Formula One podium finisher ultimately called time on his ERC campaign ahead of schedule, the progress he made – particularly on gravel – was highly impressive for a driver very much in his rallying infancy.
As well as voting for the Rookie of the Year, there’s still time to vote for the Livery of the Year, Most Improved Driver of the Year, Quote of the Year and Drive of the Year. All votes close at 18h00 CET on 22 September. The awards will be presented at the ERC Awards night in Croatia on 5 October.
