Sébastien Bedoret took the next step of his international rallying career when he made his debut in the FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship on Rally Islas Canarias last week.

Belgian driver Bedoret is part of the ERC Junior Experience training programme, which equips drivers with a number of the skills required as they progress from national to international level.

Although his Rally Islas Canarias challenge ended in retirement, he had demonstrated an impressive turn of pace against far more experienced rivals before his early exit.

“I was a little bit fast on a left corner on stage four and I take the wall in front of me,” he said. “I don’t restart because we were missing a piece of the car but I was happy with my performance before my crash because we do good times in the Qualifying Stage and we were not far from the podium when we crashed, which was very good for my first time in the ERC.”

Round two of the 2018 FIA European Rally Championship is officially underway following yesterday’s launch in Las Palmas.

Russian Performance Motorsport will lead the FIA European Rally Championship for Teams by two points when battle resumes on Rally Islas Canarias next month.

Alexey Lukyanuk and Albert von Thurn und Taxis are set for an early Czech adventure when they contest Rallye Šumava Klatovy this weekend (20-21 April).

Laurent Pellier warmed up for his next FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship appearance with a fine second place on Rallye Sierra Morena in Spain yesterday (14 April).

Slovakia’s Martin Koči made a strong start to his national title bid with second place on Rallye Prešov earlier today.

Hubert Ptaszek, the driver known as Birdman based on a rough English translation of his surname, achieved new heights on his FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship debut last month.
