ERC Junior Kupec hits back in style

Karel Kupec hit back from his car-wrecking roll on the Azores Airlines Rallye last month to claim his maiden podium in the FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship.

The Czech’s Peugeot 208 R2 was badly damaged on the mid-Atlantic season opener and was only just repaired in time to enable him to start Rally Islas Canarias.

“It was a great race and a great day,” said Kupec, who is co-driven by fellow Czech Ondřej Krajča. “I was very satisfied for my team. They do a lot of work after the Azores to repair my car after I crashed. They made great work and it’s unbelievable to be on the podium in our second race.”

He continued: “It was my first rally on Tarmac for the season but I can’t compare it to anything I have done before. There were a lot of people and the stages were perfect.”

The SEAJETS Acropolis Rally in Greece hosts round three of the 2017 FIA European Rally Championship from 2-4 June. Key event details and information appear below.

Nikolay Gryazin revved up for next week’s SEAJETS Acropolis Rally by beating Kalle Rovanperä on Rally Talsi in Latvia last weekend – by 0.74 seconds.

Marijan Griebel turned back the clock last week when he got back behind the wheel of the Opel ADAM R2 he drove to the FIA ERC Junior Championship title in 2016.

Bruno Magalhães will continue his bid for FIA European Rally Championship glory after entering next month’s SEAJETS Acropolis Rally as the top seed.

Former FIA European Rally Championship title winners Jan Kopecký and Esapekka Lappi were among the star performers on events in Czech Republic and Portugal last weekend.

Tibor Érdi Jr says winning ERC2 on Rally Islas Canarias was just what was needed in his bid to claim the FIA European Rally Championship category title.
