ERC Junior U28 prodigy Pellier retires after crash
FIA European Rally Championship Junior Under 28 talent Laurent Pellier has retired from Rally di Roma Capitale, following a crash on Saturday morning’s second stage.
Already on the back foot following a puncture in SS2, Pellier ran wide at speed, colliding with a tree. The impact pitched him across the road and down an embankment on the outside of the following corner.
Fresh from ERC3 victory last time out at the Cyprus Rally with Saintéloc Junior Team, it was a disappointing end to a difficult morning.
“I braked a little bit too late and we hit a tree. That’s the way, it’s only my second crash in 5 seasons,” said the PEUGEOT Rally Academy driver.
“We will see if we can restart tomorrow. I hope so. We are OK, this is the most important thing.”
Pellier can still recover points in Sunday’s second leg despite his retirement, as points are offered out for the fastest time across each individual leg.
