ERC Juniors prove talent during success-filled weekend
Nikolay Gryazin, Efrén Llarena, Laurent Pellier, José Suárez and Simon Wagner – all FIA ERC Junior contenders in 2018 – were on top form this weekend.
Pellier (pictured), part of the PEUGEOT Rally Academy effort in this season’s ERC, placed third on Rallye du Var in France, where he was competing in a Citroën C3 R5 on asphalt for the first time.
He finished one position ahead of Gryazin, who won three stages on route to fourth overall in his Sports Racing Technologies ŠKODA Fabia R5, the Russian finishing as the highest-placed non-Frenchman.
Swede Mattias Adielsson was in the top 20 when he retired his Saintéloc Racing-run C3 R5, but ERC Junior Experience member and European championship aspirant Hugo Margaillan won the R2 category on P20 overall.
In Spain, Llarena just missed out on a podium on his debut in an R5 car, the Spanish federation-backed star bringing his Ford Fiesta R5 home in a fine fourth on Rally Comunidad de Madrid RACE, which Suárez won in a Hyundai i20 R5.
Elsewhere in Croatia, Simon Wagner took his third consecutive victory in an R5 car by winning Rally Show Santa Domenica.
