ERC2 champion Érdi Jr's crazy happy time
Tibor Érdi Jr got the defence of his FIA ERC2 title back on track with the category victory on Rally Islas Canarias – but only after he made it through a “crazy” final stage.
Érdi Jr had set the pace in the showroom category on the first 13 stages but was powerless to make it a clean sweep of fastest times when a throttle problem took hold on the last run.
“We stopped in the stage three times, the gas pedal comes off and I work to fix it on the stage and we go again,” said the Hungarian. “It happened three times, it was crazy and I was afraid to finish the rally but we work and we win so we are very happy.”
With opening round winner Juan Carlos Alonso not finishing, Érdi Jr heads to next month’s EKO Acropolis Rally second in the class standings, 20 points behind Russian Sergei Remennik who has finished second on the opening two events of 2018.
