FPAK Portugal Team ERC’s Pedro Antunes is using his performances against Diogo Gago in 2018 as a key motivator ahead of this week’s Rally Islas Canarias.

Gago, the winner of the opening two ERC3 Junior rounds last season, beat Antunes into third place in the final Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica standings, something Antunes has not forgotten as he prepares for round two of the Pirelli-supported FIA ERC3 Junior Championship.

“My reference on Tarmac last year was always Diogo Gago, we had some nice fights,” said Portuguese federation-backed Antunes. “Although Rally Islas Canarias is a new rally for me, lots of ERC Junior drivers have done the rally before. But it looks really nice to drive.

“I understand it’s a tough rally for the tyres with the hard Tarmac and the hot weather. Although everything will be new for us and I want to do a nice fight and try to be on the podium.”
