Monteiro: Zlín experience good for my ERC future
Aloísio Monteiro will turn his Barum Czech Rally Zlín negative into a positive in next season’s FIA European Rally Championship.
The Portuguese suffered late despair in Czech Republic last month when a fuel pump failure put him out on the final stage of the sealed-surface event, which was rain-affected throughout.
But with his focus already turning to 2019, Monteiro’s Zlin debut wasn’t entirely without reward as he gained valuable experience for next season.
“It’s a fact that we can’t be satisfied with the result,” said the ARC Sport ŠKODA Fabia R5 driver. “We always aim to finish and get good results, but motorsport doesn’t always run as we would like. Still, I am very happy with this experience because it has greatly enriched my driver curriculum and gave us many information that we will use in future.”
Monteiro confirmed in Zlín his 2018 ERC campaign was the first of a two-year programme in the FIA championship.
