Simon Wagner starts Rally Islas Canarias tomorrow boosted by his 2018 podium finish and a fine run in a ŠKODA Fabia R5 on a round of the Austrian championship recently.

Wagner finished third out of the FIA ERC3 Junior Championship contingent in Las Palmas 12 months ago. While his experience of his Pirelli-equipped Stengg Motorsport Opel ADAM R2 on asphalt is limited to last Monday’s test, his confidence is high.

“We definitely want to top our third place from last year,” said the talented Austrian. “After our broken suspension at the Azores we were really disappointed but now we need good points on Canarias and Tarmac is the surface we know best.

“After the Azores we were able to drive in the third round of the Austrian championship with the ŠKODA Fabia R5. After a bad first, rainy day with the wrong tyres we won the second day ahead of my brother Julian in the BRR Fabia, Hermann Neubauer and Niki Mayr-Melnhof.”
