Maior bids for wins in Junior ERC title push

Only wins will do for Norbert Maior as he bids to win the first FIA Junior WRC Championship title of the Hankook-equipped era.

That’s the Romanian driver’s verdict ahead of next week’s Barum Czech Rally Zlín, the penultimate event of the campaign.

Maior, whose Peugeot 208 Rally4 is co-driven by his sister Francesca, is seven points behind Ola Nore Jr after four rounds. But with drivers counting their best five scores from a possible six, Maior doesn’t want to get caught out when dropped scores are taken into consideration.

Following his third place finish on Rally di Roma Capitale last month, Maior said: “The fight is on now for Barum and Hungary, the last two rallies. We are looking forward to them and we consider Hungary almost a home rally because we did this rally many times and it should be good for us. But we have to prepare really well for Barum because we need to win and we need to win in Hungary, this is what I want and this is what I have prepared for.”

After back-to-back wins in Poland and Latvia, Renault Clio Rally4 driver Nore has failed to return to the podium while Maior has only finished in the top three this season.

“We need to find more pace,” said Norwegian Nore. “There is a lot to improve and I feel like I could not give it all [in Rome], I was holding back because of the set-up but there is more to give.”

Maior finished second in Junior ERC on his one and only Barum Czech Rally Zlín appearance in 2021. However, Nore was a non-starter that same year and will be playing catch-up as a result when the all-Tarmac event takes place from 18 - 20 August.
