The Polish driver led after Thursday
evening’s Las Palmas de Gran Canaria super special but dropped behind Kerem
Kazaz on SS2 and reached the Friday night halt trailing the Turkish teenager by
29.0sec.
But with Kazaz hampered by an issue on his
MRF-equipped Ford Fiesta Rally3, Widłak moved into first place with his fourth
stage win of leg two. And it was a position he held to the finish, taking the
top step of the podium by 35.2sec.
Co-driven by Daniel Dymurski in a Ford
Fiesta Rally3 on Pirelli tyres, Widłak said: “Today was good, we were faster
and gained better confidence. We had good fun and everything was perfect and
every kilometre I completed was better.
“I took Barum Czech Rally Zlín for my
comeback rally last year, I won but that was hard and now this event is even
harder for a Tarmac rally but I also won so I am happy. My car and team were
perfect, the work in the service was really good.”
Kazaz, who registered four stage wins
alongside new co-driver Hugo Magalhães, said: “The stages are nice but
something was not working with the car. I tried to keep the lead but I could
not do more. I got more confidence and more experience on this rally but I was
fighting for the win and the ERC3 points.”
As well as claiming his maiden FIA Junior
ERC victory, Mille Johansson bagged the FIA ERC4 laurels aboard his
Hankook-shod Opel Corsa Rally4. Calle Carlberg and Timo Schulz finished second
and third respectively in their Corsa Rally4s.
The gravel-based BAUHAUS Royal Rally of
Scandinavia is next for the ERC3 and ERC4 crews from 13 - 15 June.
