ERC Greatest Car voting continues with Citroën versus Ford battle

A car that made FIA European Rally Championship history and a car that was a winner as recently as July’s Rally di Roma Capitale will battle for a place in the quarter-finals of the ERC Greatest Car contest.

The first R5 (now Rally2) car to win a round of the ERC – Rally Poland in 2013 – the Ford Fiesta R5 from Malcolm Wilson’s M-Sport operation notched up 18 wins and helped Kajetan Kajetanowicz become the only driver to claim European rallying’s biggest prize three years running.

After making its ERC debut in 2019, Alexey Lukyanuk claimed his second European title aboard a Citroën C3 Rally2 in 2020 having taken the crown for the first time in a Ford Fiesta R5 in 2018.

While Lukyanuk was synonymous with the success of the C3 Rally2 in the ERC, Yoann Bonato scored his third ERC victory in one of the French machines when he triumphed on Rally Islas Canarias in May. Andrea Crugnola made it 13 wins and counting for the car after he celebrated back-to-back Rally di Roma Capitale victories in July.

ERC Greatest Car of the modern era explained
It’s not just the drivers who have starred since the FIA European Rally Championship calendar was streamlined into the format recognisable today.

Following that landmark moment in 2004, some of the greatest rally cars ever built have battled for glory in the various categories that continue to ensure the ERC remains as popular as it is relevant.

Fans can vote from a shortlist of 16 great ERC cars prepared by our team of experts. Employing bracketology, voting is available through the ERC’s social media channels with a 24-hour window to vote for each pairing. The winner will be announced on 4 December.

Included on the shortlist are the Peugeot 207 Super 2000, the Škoda Fabia R5, the Subaru Impreza STI N12, and many more.
