Five drivers who made Toyotas tick in the ERC’s modern era
With Japan gearing up to host the deciding round of the FIA World Rally Championship next weekend, here’s a reminder of five drivers that made the country’s first Rally2 car, the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, tick in the FIA European Rally Championship.
Mikko Heikkilä
Led on the car’s ERC debut on V-Híd Rally Hungary (below) only for a broken wheel to put him out. The Finn hit back with second place on BAUHAUS Royal Rally of Scandinavia, the best ERC result for the GR Yaris Rally2 to date.
Chris Ingram
Was in the victory fight on JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion following an impressive performance (below) when he got caught in low-grip conditions and crashed.
Filip Mareš (below)
Scored the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2’s first ERC points in Hungary and also claimed two ERC stage wins before the season was out.
Mārtiņš Sesks
Two stage wins put the Team MRF Tyres driver in the fight for victory on V-Híd Rally Hungary (below). An off in the closing stages would dictate otherwise, however.
The ERC Greatest Car contest continues next week with the quarter-finals due to begin on Monday 18 November. Follow the ERC’s social media channels to vote.
