Superb ERC Junior Under 28 line-up takes shape

The FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship is set for a thrilling maiden season with several leading lights announcing exciting plans for 2017.

Young talents Nikolay Gryazin (pictured) and Ralfs Sirmacis will drive ŠKODA Fabia R5s for Sports Racing Technologies, while Pepe Lopez and José Suarez were announced as the Peugeot Rally Academy’s representatives in 208T16s on Monday.

A number of other young hopefuls are due to announce their ERC Junior U28 plans in the coming weeks.

The inaugural champion will receive a one-off prize drive in a 2016-specificaiton World Rally Car on a European round of the world championship next year.

José Suárez completed his maiden season of FIA European Rally Championship action by finishing second among the ERC Junior U28 contingent on Rally Liepāja to secure third in the final class reckoning.

Krisóf Klausz’s strong end to the 2017 FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship continued when he finished sixth in class on Rally Liepāja.

Aleks Zawada says there were “a lot of positives” after his bid for the FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship – and the 100,000 euros prize fund – ultimately ended in disappointment in Latvia earlier this month.
