Three-year wait for ERC success worth it for Panteli, Christodoulou

Petros Panteli’s co-driver Kyprias Christodoulou said winning ERC2 on their home round of FIA European Rally Championship was the “best feeling” and the culmination of a three-year wait for success.

Panteli and fellow Cypriot Christodoulou took the showroom category laurels on the Cyprus Rally in their Q8 Oils Rally Team Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.

Afterwards, a delighted Christodoulou – who competes under the ‘Q8’ pseudonym – said: “It’s the best feeling. We did our best, we tried things that nobody tried and we accomplished what we were desiring for the last three years.

“We knew we would have an advantage on the first stage [on Sunday] because the first stage is our home stage and we knew we could get some time off [Panikos] Polykarpou. After that he was unlucky because he had a puncture, we were really careful and we did not have a puncture at all and we end the day with this position.”
