After SS14: Lukyanuk wins ERC finale and the Love Cyprus Golden Stage
Alexey Lukyanuk has clinched victory on the final round of the 2016 FIA European Rally Championship in style, also triumphing in the Love Cyprus Golden Stage.
Lukyanuk led the CNP ASFALISTIKI Cyprus Rally from the beginning on his way to his second ERC win of 2016, fastest on 11 of the 13 stages and 2m12.2s clear of the opposition.
He capped it with the fastest time on the Love Cyprus Golden Stage, therefore winning 25,000 euros pledged by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation in addition to the 7,000 euros he will receive from Eurosport Events for winning the rally.
Organisers had to cancel stage 13 for safety reasons, setting up a single-stage shootout for the Golden Stage prize money, concluding in a stunning beach setting.
Marijan Griebel finishes a superb second on his R5 debut, a prize drive for winning this year’s ERC Junior title.
Ralfs Sirmacis concludes his impressive first season at the top level of the ERC with third place in Cyprus. He was second on the Love Cyprus Golden Stage, pocketing 15,000 euros, with Griebel taking 10,000 for third.
Cypriot Christos Demosthenous clinched victory in ERC2, his third successive victory in the showroom category on his home event.
Murat Bostanci claimed the ERC3 win, and beat Castrol Ford Team Türkiye team-mate Bugra Banaz by 1.5s to be the top two-wheel-drive car on the Golden Stage. He therefore takes home 7,000 euros, while Banaz gets 2,000 euros.
