Ralfs Sirmacis put a difficult start to the FIA European Rally Championship finale in Cyprus behind him to post the best time on the first of Saturday’s stages, 0.1 seconds faster than rally leader Alexey Lukyanuk.

Sirmacis dropped over a minute to Lukyanuk – his rival for the runner-up position in the championship – on a challenging start to the mixed-surface event on Friday night. He was much more at home in the daylight of the all-gravel PSALTIS ENEOS Tseri stage, however, and moves up to fourth overall in front of ERC2 leader Christos Demosthenous.

ERC Junior graduates Nikolay Gryazin and Marijan Griebel have both continued their fine starts to the rally, only 1.2 and 2.9 seconds respectively off the pace on SS3.

The second stage of the morning will be Kotsiatis at 08h29. Click here for live timing.
