Avcioǧlu praises Toksport after ERC top five
Orhan Avcioǧlu celebrated his FIA European Rally Championship career-high fifth place on the Cyprus Rally by praising his Toksport team for keeping him in contention for a top result.
Avcioǧlu, the 2017 FIA Balkan Rally Trophy winner from Turkey, described his Cyprus Rally debut as “really difficult and eventful” after battling back from a few mechanical issues and a high-speed trip through a field.
“We changed the propshaft, changed the rear hub two times, changed the transmission, the front windshield is cracked, a lot was going on this weekend but our pace was not so bad, lower than one second per kilometre in almost all stages and that’s a positive note to take back for my first time here.
“We lost 1m10s when we went off into the field and [without that] we could have been fighting for the podium but maybe that’s meant for another time. I’m still really happy, I wanted a top five finish and I knew we could do it. Thank you to all the Toksport team. They worked really hard and had a really good strategy. These results don’t come easily, we worked really hard and I’m super-happy when it’s like that.”
