Giandomenico Basso, a two-time winner of the FIA European Rally Championship, says that he would love to make a return to the series on selected rounds this year.

The Italian won his European titles in 2006 and 2009, at the wheel of an Abarth Grande Punto. More recently, he has concentrated on the Italian championship, where he has just signed for another season at the wheel of an LPG-powered Ford Fiesta R5, run by BRC Gas Equipment: which fielded another former ERC star – Robert Kubica – on Rallye Monte-Carlo earlier this year.

“We’d obviously have to come with a conventional petrol car if we were going to the ERC, but I wouldn’t exclude the possibility of us doing it,” said Basso. “It’s something that I would love to happen, although there are no immediate plans in place. There are some truly fantastic events on the calendar though, right from the very first round in the Canaries.”
