Phivos Zachariades, who advises Cypriot President Anastasiades on matters relating to sport, got a ride of a lifetime when he accompanied Nasser Al-Attiyah during testing for this week’s FIA European Rally Championship counter.

Mr Zachariades accompanied Al-Attiyah – the five-time Cyprus Rally winner – during a test in the Tseri region of Cyprus in what was a significant moment. The President’s advisor is the brother of Victoras Zachariades, who won the first Cyprus Rally back in 1970.

According to the event organisers, “Mr Zachariades witnessed the new breed of rally cars up close, and upon his return had remarked on their incredible speed and technology as well as Al-Attiyah’s impeccable driving”.

The Cyprus Rally, which is based in Larnaca from 15-17 June, forms the fourth event of the ERC season.
