Who is he? The big Czech hope for the future, Mareš stepped up to R5 power in the FIA European Rally Championship when he made his debut in the ERC Junior Under 28 category on his home event, Barum Czech Rally Zlín.
He’s got previous… Mareš challenged for last year’s Pirelli-supported ERC Junior Under 27 title with the backing of his country’s national federation, the Autoklub of the Czech Republic, eventually finishing third in the standings.
Fitting reward: As his reward and to further his experience, the ACCR has been supporting his hugely promising campaign in the Czech Republic this season in a ŠKODA Fabia R5 run by Kresta Racing, which includes the combined ERC and Czech championship-counting Barum Czech Rally Zlín from 24-26 August, plus the closing ERC rounds in Poland and Latvia.
On form: Mareš, who continues to be co-driven by compatriot Jan Hloušek, has claimed two podiums in this year’s Czech series and was on course to finish second in ERC Junior U28 in Zlín only to crash out on the final stage. While it provided little consolation, he did score his maiden outright ERC stage win earlier on the event.
Kresta fan: Before his competition career began on Rally Střela Žihle in 2011, Mareš was a regular visitor to Czech championship to watch his hero Roman Kresta, now his team boss.
