Who is he? Černý first emerged in the FIA European Rally Championship back in 2009 aged 18, taking a Subaru Impreza to sixth in the standings.
Title time: The following season he won the ERC and Czech 2WD titles and was selected as a Pirelli Star Driver to compete in the WRC Academy in 2011.
Back for more: Černý regained his ERC and Czech 2WD crowns in 2012 and in 2013 finished fourth on Rally Liepajā in a ŠKODA Fabia S2000 and won ERC 2WD at home after switching to a PEUGEOT 208 R2 with backing from the company’s Czech importer.
Flying start: His ERC Junior bid in 2014 began with back-to-back wins but he was often out of luck thereafter and eventually finished third in the points.
Home hopeful: He claimed fifth in the Czech championship in 2015 and was runner-up in 2016, earning the support of his national federation for an ERC Junior U28 assault in 2017, which included a class victory on Rally di Roma Capitale.
The adventure continues: His 2018 campaign, again supported by the ACCR, includes a mix of European and Czech championship events, this time in a Gemini Clinic Rally Team Ford Fiesta R5. A wheel failure on the opening stage of Barum Czech Rally Zlín resulted in a five-minute penalty and ruined Černý’s hopes of a class win on his home event.
