Who is he? Huttunen is part of the next generation of Flying Finns and destined for big things having already secured the support of a manufacturer to compete in the World Rally Championship.
How so? Finishing runner-up in the Pirelli-supported FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship in 2017, coupled with a class win on Rally Finland in a ŠKODA Fabia R5, attracted interest from Hyundai and Huttunen was duly signed for the Hyundai Motorsport Driver development Program (HMDP) for 2018, which has handed him selected tests and world championship rallies.
And an ERC return too? Huttunen’s schedule will also include the ERC-counting PZM Rally Poland in a Hyundai i20 R5 when he will go up against a number of fellow ERC Junior U27 graduates. After finishing fifth on Rally Estonia and second in class on Rally Finland, Huttunen is expected to be among the frontrunners.
Fond memories: Huttunen claimed his sole ERC Junior U27 win in Poland last season, albeit on the all-asphalt Rally Rzeszow. His ERC Junior U27 campaign with the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team last season was his prize for winning the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup in Germany in 2016.
Did you know? Huttunen was chosen at the Future Star of Finland for 2015, following on from inaugural winner Teemu Suninen. His prize was a fully-funded driver on his home round of the world championship.
