Tibor Erdi Jr
Date of birth : 07/10/1982
Who is he? Érdi Jr is the FIA European Rally Championship’s back-to-back ERC2 champion* who stepped up to R5 power on Rally Liepāja, finishing a promising P11 following a time-consuming puncture.
Fond memories: It was on the Latvian event in 2017 that Érdi Jr claimed the ERC’s showroom category laurels in a thrilling final-round decider with Zelindo Melegari.
Job done: With four wins, Érdi Jr got the job done a little earlier this season, with Barum Czech Rally Zlín the setting of his title celebrations.
And for his next move: With the ERC2 title provisionally his, the 36-year-old Érdi Jr will switch from Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X to ŠKODA Fabia R5 power in Latvia as part of preparations for 2019 when a full season of R5 action is targeted.
Looking back: Although his ERC2 title defence got off to a frustrating start when he retired from the Azores Airlines Rallye with broken suspension, he hit back with a dominant class victory on Rally Islas Canarias. But it was close after a throttle problem twice left him stranded on the final run. He hung on to win but the fault ruled out a clean sweep of stage bests. A second consecutive victory on the EKO Acropolis Rally put him firmly back in the title hunt, while a third on Rally di Roma Capitale completed an impressive hat-trick, before he made it four from five in Zlín.
