Joona “ready” after landing ERC chance with Team MRF Tyres
Lauri Joona says he’s ready to take on the “tough challenge” of the deciding round of the 2025 FIA European Rally Championship after his recruitment by Team MRF Tyres.
The talented Finn will contest next week’s Croatia Rally for what marks a crucial event for Team MRF Tyres as it bids to win the coveted FIA European Rally Championship for Teams for a third time.
Jonna, the 2022 WRC3 Open champion, said: “This is a great opportunity for me and I want to give my absolute best. It is a crucial rally for the team, so the focus and preparation will be very important. I know it will be a tough challenge, but I am ready to face it, and I am really looking forward to this experience.”
In Joona, Team MRF Tyres can count on a driver with considerable pace and pedigree in Croatia. The 28-year-old has tackled the event three times. After finishing third in Junior WRC on his debut in 2021, he took the category win the following year before fifth in WRC2 Challenger in 2024. He also finished third on Quattro River Rally Karlovac, a round of the Croatian championship, that year.
Compatriot Kristian Temonen will co-drive Joona, who has two starts at ERC level to his name. They will compete in an MRF-equipped Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 alongside team-mates Erik Cais and Simone Tempestini.
Team MRF Tyres leads the FIA European Rally Championship for Teams by 17 points ahead of the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team.
Croatia Rally, which is based in the capital Zagreb, takes place from 3 - 5 October.
