ERC final-round status excites Rally Liepāja boss

ERC final-round status excites Rally Liepāja boss

The closing round of the 2018 FIA European Rally Championship might be more than 10 months away but Rally Liepāja chief Raimonds Strokšs is already relishing the prospect of his event hosting the ERC for a sixth time.

Rally Liepāja will bring the curtain down on the 2018 ERC from 12-14 October with an all-gravel spectacular on Latvia’s Baltic coast. And after five prestigious FIA titles were decided on last October’s fifth running, Strokšs, the RA Events Director, former driver and brainchild of Rally Liepāja has every reason to be excited.

“To organise the final round of the ERC is a great honour, and great responsibility at the same time,” he said. “In a rally when the championship title is on the line, every smallest detail is of utmost scrutiny. Above all that, in a year when Latvia is celebrating its centennial anniversary, running a perfect event will give us an amazing opportunity to cheer the name of Latvia and rally city Liepāja even louder.”

Rally Liepāja is the eighth event of the 2018 ERC season, which opens with the Azores Airlines Rallye from 22-24 March.

Efrén LLarena’s preparations for FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship success have progressed with confirmation that Mavista Sport will run his Rally Team Spain entry during the upcoming season.

The start of the 2018 FIA European Rally Championship season has moved a step closer with the publishing of the Azores Airlines Rallye key timings.

Frank Tore Larsen hopes his Azores Airlines Rallye redemption mission will be the catalyst to an FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship attack in 2018.

FIA European Rally Championship event winner Nikolay Gryazin is in for a great time when he makes his debut on the Sigdalsrally in Norway this weekend (20-21 January).

The FIA held its largest and most successful rally sporting and safety seminar to date with 173 participants from 38 countries attending the event in Dublin, Ireland, last Saturday.

Drivers planning to contest the FIA European Rally Championship in 2018 can register to do so following the opening of registrations at the FIA.
