ERC Junior Yates to try co-driving for size
Rhys Yates, a podium finisher in the FIA ERC Junior Under 28 Championship in 2018, will try co-driving for size this weekend.
Yates is switching from driving his ŠKODA Fabia R5 to co-driving his brother James on Saturday’s Neil Howard Stages, which takes place at the Oulton Park racing circuit in northwest England.
“It’s been a fantastic year in the ŠKODA so I’m going to relax a little and let ‘JJ’ have a go at Oulton Park,” Yates explained. “He’s pretty quick too so I’ll be in the co-driver’s seat to keep an eye on him.”
Yates followed a long list of drivers by using the FIA European Rally Championship to build experience of international competition after stepping up from national level.
With support from Brettex, Yates made four ERC appearances during his maiden European campaign, finishing third in the highly competitive ERC Junior U28 class for young stars in R5 cars on the Azores Airlines Rallye and scoring points again on Rally di Roma Capitale and Rally Liepāja to underline his potential.
