Barum Czech Rally Zlín has been voted the Zlatý Volant’s Motorsport Event of the Year following an online fan poll.

A long-term fixture on the FIA European Rally Championship calendar, the famous all-Tarmac event topped a new award at the annual Golden Wheel ceremony in Czech Republic.

Barum Czech Rally Zlín beat Brno’s prestigious MotoGP round, the Czech Truck Prix at Most and the famous Golden Helment speedway event in Pardubice.

“We are really proud that the Barum Rally succeeded right at the first go in this newly announced category,” said Miloslav Regner, the Barum Czech Rally Zlín Clerk of the Course. “It is a proof of how popular this rally and rallying as a whole in Czech Republic is. We want to thank everyone who supported our rally not only in the Golden Wheel poll, but also during the race itself. The spectators are an inseparable part of every motorsport event and especially those visiting the Barum Rally always create really unique atmosphere along the rally route.”

There were more ERC-based celebrations at the event when former European champion and multiple Barum Czech Rally Zlín winner Jan Kopecký received the Golden Wheel Rally Driver of the Year award.

“The Golden Wheel is the most prestigious award you can achieve in our country,” said the factory ŠKODA Motorsport star. “The jury consisted of professional journalists who closely follow motorsport in the Czech Republic. My thanks go to the ŠKODA Motorsport team, without them we couldn’t reach such results and successes. And I take it also like we get this prize together with my great co-driver Pavel Dresler. We are two in the car so the credits in this prize are claimed by 50:50.”

Barum Czech Rally Zlín number 48 will form round six of the 2018 ERC season from 24-26 August. Click here for more details.
