Gonon happy to be fifth on his home ERC event
Florian Gonon says that he is very happy to be in fifth position, heading into the final day of the Rallye International du Valais.
The Swiss driver dominated the ERC Production Car Cup on the event last year, winning the category in a Subaru Impreza R4 STI and finishing 9th overall.
Co-driven by Manu Guex, Gonon starts the final day fifth in his Lugano Racing Team-run Peugeot 207 S2000 – and in a big battle for position with ERC Junior champion Emil Bergkvist, who is making his four-wheel drive rally debut in a Saintéloc Racing Peugeot 208 T16, and who is just 5.7 seconds behind.
“We are both very happy,” said Gonon. “Manu and I were saying that we would never have thought that we would be fifth going into the final day of competition. We are having fun, the car is perfect and we hope it goes on like this until the finish.”
