Munnings shrugs off illness to continue ERC Junior scoring run
Catie Munnings continued her strong scoring run in the FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship with a battling performance on Barum Czech Rally Zlín late last month.
Munnings fought back from a stomach virus to claim her third top-six of 2018 in the Pirelli-supported category in the Saintéloc Junior Team PEUGEOT 208 R2 that was co-driven on this occasion by Alba Sánchez from Spain.
“It was a very difficult rally from the get-off, especially with being ill on the recce it was hard to make good pacenotes, they’ve been pretty basic,” said the Briton, who won the ERC Ladies’ Trophy category in Czech Republic. “And it was very difficult with so much mud and slippery surfaces you need to have very detailed pacenotes so it’s been difficult. We missed qualifying as well and normally that’s a good time to see where your pace is and make changes on the car.
“It was one of those rallies where you were counting down the kilometres to the end. I just wanted to get to the finish and there was no point risking anything. It was so easy to make a mistake. I’m just happy to be at the end.”
