Pirelli celebrates ERC title quadruple
Pirelli’s Head of Car Racing, Mario Isola, says Alexey Lukyanuk’s FIA European Rally Championship title triumph* is testament to the company’s ability to produce tyres capable of winning on asphalt and gravel.
Lukyanuk’s maiden ERC crown* was Pirelli’s fourth in as many years and follows Kajetan Kajetanowicz’s trio of title triumphs.
Isola said: “Congratulations to Alexey on a well-deserved drivers’ title, where he showed amazing speed in a very wide variety of conditions and surfaces. Helping him were our Pirelli tyres, which have kept up a fantastic winning record in Europe this year against tough opposition. The fact that this marks the fourth consecutive year that we clinch the title demonstrates that it’s no coincidence.
“Pirelli has shown itself to be the preferred choice for privateer drivers, which is the focus of our rallying activities this year, along with an emphasis on youth to encourage the next generation of champions and give them the opportunity to succeed in both the European and world championship arena in the future.”
As well as the overall title, Pirelli secured the ERC2 title with Tibor Érdri Jr*, while the Italian company is the official tyre supplier to the FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship, which Mārtiņš secured on PZM Rally Poland last weekend.
