Poloński: ERC Abarth Rally Cup entry like a ‘homecoming’
Dariusz Poloński says contesting the first Abarth Rally Cup to run within the FIA European Rally Championship is like a ‘homecoming’.
The Pole started his career in circuit racing with Fiat power before he switched to rallying in 1999, this time relying on a Fiat Seicento Sporting.
For 2019, the multiple Polish Rally Championship class winner has signed up for the Abarth Rally Cup and will pilot a 124 rally for the respected Rallytechnology outfit.
“From my beginning I really love cup racing, it’s always fun to have the same cars, and the atmosphere is always great,” said the 42-yea-old. “The atmosphere inside the cup is always great. In Poland and in motorsport we are really connected with Fiat and the Abarth name was something magical for us. Together with Rallytechnology we decided it’s a great idea to have a rear-wheel-drive car, to race in a cup and to have an Abarth.”
The Abarth Rally Cup begins on Rally Islas Canarias from 2-4 May. As well as chasing Abarth Rally Cup points and the lucrative prize fund on offer, Poloński and his Abarth Rally Cup rivals will be eligible for the ERC2 category.
