ERC champion Mikkelsen tells fans not to miss the action from Fafe

Andreas Mikkelsen has backed Efrén Llarena to emulate him by winning the FIA European Rally Championship – and is calling on fans to follow his lead by watching the action from Rally Serras de Fafe - Felgueiras - Cabreira e Boticas this weekend.

For the first time, every stage from all eight rounds – including the new-for-2022 Power Stage – will be streamed live and on demand for fans to watch whenever, wherever and however they want through WRC Promoter’s WRC+ streaming platform at

Mikkelsen, who claimed ERC title gold in 2021 driving a Škoda Fabia Rally2 for Toksport WRT, plans to watch the live streaming from northern Portugal.

He said: “The speed in the ERC last year was really high with a lot of good drivers and a lot of action, everyone was really pushing. The footage, even though it’s not WRC, will still be very, very spectacular. I will definitely be in front of the TV this weekend and will take some time to watch it.”

Of his tips for the 2022 title, Norwegian Mikkelsen said: “The guys fighting at the front last year will also be fighting at the front this year like Llarena. Erik Cais was really fast on Tarmac so we still have to wait and see how he does on the gravel, but he has great potential.”

Mikkelsen, who also won the FIA WRC2 title last season and currently heads the provisional standings in 2022, finished first in Fafe in 2021 and is more than aware of the challenge in store.

“On the first day last year the conditions were really, really difficult with very heavy fog and a lot of rain which made the stages incredibly slippery,” he said. “The stages in the Fafe area get really slippery when it’s raining and if you go outside the lines the car is just floating on top of the road surface. But it’s a really nice gravel rally and it’s a rally you can enjoy because there are spectacular stages. But don’t go flat over the famous jump on Lameirinha, that will hurt.”
