Teodósio's fiery start to 2022

Rally Serras de Fafe - Felgueiras - Cabreira e Boticas got off to a less than ideal start for Ricardo Teodósio.

After campaigning a Skoda Fabia for the previous four years, there was always going to be a lot for Teodósio to learn on his Team Hyundai Portugal i20 N Rally2 debut.

But, before the season opener had even begun, the reigning Portuguese champion got a little more than he bargained for when he accidentally activated the car’s electrical fire extinguisher.

"This is a completely new experience, the first time the official driver of a brand at 46-years-old,” he explained. “It’s a bit late for me, but I’m really happy for that.

“Anyway, I was not experienced enough with the Hyundai yet and we pushed the wrong button on the car - the extinguisher. We wanted to turn it off and there was dust everywhere inside the car.

“It was like snow, there was dust everywhere so we had to come back to service, change the extinguisher, clean the car inside, clean ourselves and go [to Free Practice] again and do our best.”

Teodósio’s rally did eventually get better. Despite costly driveshaft and rear differential troubles on Saturday morning, he went on to post some respectable times and eventually finished ninth.

He starts next week’s Azores Rallye (25 - 27 March) - an event he has finished inside the top five on previously - with number six on the doors.
