Kristensson plans ERC comeback

Former ERC Junior graduate Tom Kristensson will return to the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) stages later this year.

The Swede, who drove an Adam R2 for the ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team in 2019, will contest three rallies in the ERC’s top flight in addition to other selected outings with a Hyundai i20 N Rally2.

His European assault kicks off at Rally Poland (11 - 12 June), followed by Rally Liepaja (2 - 3 July) and Barum Czech Rally Zlín (27 - 28 August). A drive at the WRC’s Secto Automotive Rally Finland is also scheduled in early August.

“I have been spoiled with success in past seasons due to dedication and careful planning,” Kristensson said in a social media announcement. “As you probably know, the job to set the 2022 season has not been easy.

“After carefully considering [our options], I have come to the conclusion that I will drive a Hyundai i20 N Rally2 together with Kowax and 2B Rally in selected events.

“Since no series or championship will be followed fully, the calendar can be changed during the season. I can’t wait to get started.”

The 30-year-old has clinched various success since graduating from the Junior ERC, including being crowned FIA Junior WRC champion in 2020.

He spent a brief time driving a Ford Fiesta Rally2 for M-Sport in WRC2 last year, but only finished on two out of five occasions.
