ERC legend Marczyk graduates to WRC2

Former FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) frontrunner Miko Marczyk is getting set for his WRC debut at the Croatia Rally next week (21 - 24 April).

Marczyk, who finished third in last year's ERC and won the ERC-Michelin Talent Factory award, will take his European experience to the world stage as he advances to the sport's premier support category.

His planned campaign kicks off in Croatia and also includes stops in Portugal, Italy, Estonia, Finland, and Spain.

The Pole has retained his trusty Skoda Fabia Rally2 as well as the support of oil and petrol giant Orlen.

“Last year we combined starting in the ERC and the Polish championship, and I think my progress as a driver was quite good,” Marczyk told FIAERC.com.

“We took the Michelin Talent Factory prize and I was also the third driver in the ERC, so together with my partners and my team we decided that it’s a good idea to go for the stages of the World Rally Championship and try WRC2.

“I’m 26-years-old now, and it’s probably necessary to gain some experience and get to know the stages. My hopes are that it’s possible for us to be quite good in WRC2, just like we were in the ERC,” he added.

Marczyk is targeting a high finishing record during his maiden season and believes the longer format of WRC rallies will add to the challenge.

“I think the most important thing for me is to finish all the events,” he explained. “I am used to doing 200km in ERC, but these rallies are more demanding because they are usually 300km.

“If we will finish every rally then maybe we can also get some good points in the WRC Junior category, which we will also compete in.”
