Tempestini currently holds fifth in the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) standings as well as second in the ERC-Michelin Talent Factory behind Javier Pardo.
The Škoda Fabia Rally2 driver missed out on a top-five result after crashing on the final stage of Rally Serras de Fafe - Felgueiras - Cabreira e Boticas, but he recovered to net fourth at the Azores Rallye.
At Rally Islas Canarias earlier this month, he finished ninth overall after struggling to match the frontrunners’ pace.
“It was a tough couple of days,” Tempestini said of the championship’s first all-asphalt round. “Okay, it was not as solid a result as we wanted, but it was a hard rally for us.
“We started quite slow and not on the pace we wanted, with maybe the wrong car set-up. But, we learned a lot.
“By the end of the rally, we had made a lot of modifications and the feeling in the last stages was much better. Sometimes it’s like that; maybe we missed some kilometres of testing, but we know that we can be faster,” he added.
The Romanian driver also revealed that he hopes to challenge for the top spot at Orlen Rally Poland next month, which takes place on his preferred gravel surface.
Tempestini has started the Mikołajki-based fixture seven times previously, although he retired on the first morning last year.
“Our next Tarmac rally for sure will be much better for us, but now we are concentrating on Poland. It’s a rally on our favourite surface, and we will try to be as fast as we can.
“For Poland, we really want to fight for the first position and I hope we will manage to keep our real pace from the beginning of the first stage.”
