Kasari to resume ERC3 bid in Poland

Kaspar Kasari will return to the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) stages at Orlen 78th Rally Poland next month (11 - 12 June).

Kasari was the class of the ERC3 field at Rally Serras de Fafe - Felgueiras - Cabreira e Boticas in March, where he stole a late category victory with a storming drive through the Power Stage.

The Ford Fiesta Rally3 driver has since focused on national rallies in his native Estonia and consequently missed rounds two and three, but will return to action in Mikołajki to resume his title tilt.

“It’s been a while, but it’s good to be back,” Kasari told FIAERC.com. “We have been doing some gravel rallies in Estonia, and Rally Islas Canarias was on the same weekend as my home event so that took priority.

“In Poland, we want to do our best and see what we can achieve. We’re working hard and giving everything our maximum, so let’s see what happens.

“After that, we will go to Rally Liepāja. If it goes well, then hopefully we can try to do the rest of the ERC season.”

Kasari will face strong opposition at round four, with championship leader and home hero Igor Widłak also expected to field a similar Fiesta.

He contested the rally last year and finished fourth in class, but he believes that Latvia’s roads will feel most like home.

“I think that Poland will be a little bit different to Estonia because of the road surface,” he explained, “but Latvia is quite similar, so it will be familiar to drive there. We’re looking forward to the challenge,” he added.
