Suzuki tests boost reliability for Rome

The team missed Tet Rally Liepāja earlier this month but will return to the stages on the Fiuggi-based fixture with ERC Open leader Joan Vinyes and Alberto Monarri piloting identical Swift R4LLY S cars.

Last time out at Orlen 78th Rally Poland, Monarri’s car ground to a halt on the very first stage. The issue was traced to a faulty sensor which has since been replaced, with Monarri carrying out a pre-event test early last week to ensure everything is in order. 

“We changed some things for this rally, so we had a test last week to try things out and everything was working well,” Monarri told FIAERC.com. “The problem in Poland was because of a new sensor, so we have changed that in my car and in Joan’s car.

“My car is the same as Joan’s but it has less kilometres than his, so we have to put in everything in order to develop it and make sure it’s all working well,” he added.

Vinyes drove in Rome last year, finishing 31st overall and second in class. But for Monarri, it’s going to be an all-new experience - and he has new co-driver Alberto Chammoro alongside. 

“I am really excited about this one,” enthused Monarri. “I think it will be very similar to a Spanish rally with the Tarmac and the conditions. I’ve not done anything since Poland, so I am ready to drive the car again!”
